We started raising poultry in 2016 strictly as pets with the benefit of fresh eggs. However, when Covid hit, I realized just how reliant we were on stores providing our food. It was then that I decided my family was going back to the basics. When you get back to basics, you concentrate on the simplest, yet most important things in your life like your health, your family and friends. By gardening, growing and raising your own food, you are not only cutting out the chemicals, but also reducing your reliability on others for food and limiting your carbon footprint. If your kids help you in these tasks, they also learn personal responsibility and healthy eating habits. My son takes care of the hens and helps with the construction projects for them and helps with the gardening and picking herbs for the Apothecary. My daughter, who is far from an outdoorsy person, helps on the back side with washing and storing, canning - and eating of the fruits and veggies as well as labeling products in the Apothecary. My husband is a saint in that he works really hard to provide a steady income while I move our family into this new chapter of our life. He listens, sometimes reluctantly, about all of my herbal remedies; suffers without disposable paper towels; and is my taste tester of medications/remedies. I do not give him enough credit for being a good sport about it all. Anyway, enough about us, I would love to hear your stories of going back to basics. I will be starting a blog page where we can all start sharing stories, recipes and advice. Good luck to you all and happy gardening!
The apothecary started around 2012, mostly for personal use and for the benefit of family and friends. When Covid hit, I was tasked with making many more holistic products for not only family and friends, but also friends of friends. When people started telling me that they really liked the herbal remedies and preferred them over prescription medicine*, I started thinking about how I could help others with these remedies - which is how this page got started. This website is a work in progress, and I am not even close to knowledgeable in website creation, so please bear with me as I update this site and work through the kinks. I can assure you that if you order anything, you will get updates and a tracking number directly from me.
*I am in no way claiming that all prescription medication is bad. In fact, there are times when it may be needed. I am simply providing natural alternatives that have worked for myself and my family. You should always check with a licensed physician before you start taking herbals.
